A Watery Grave

Romans 10:9  If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

• You become a new creation in Christ. 
• Your heart is washed clean by Jesus’ blood.
• your spirit is made alive by the Holy Spirit. 

 baptizo = submerge or immerse. 

Jesus did the will of His Father and chose to be baptized 

Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?” But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.” So John agreed to baptize him. Matthew 3:13-17               

For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:21 

What am I showing others when I am baptized?

• Faith
• Obedience
• Commitment

But now the people believed Philip’s message of Good News concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ. As a result, many men and women were baptized.  Matthew 3:13-17

KEY: You are not baptized to become a Christ follower; you are baptized because you are a Christ follower. 

And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. Galatians 3:27

For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. Colossians 2:12

Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16
